First day for Peaches!

Our own peaches are now being carefully picked. Early varieties of peaches tend to have a lot of peaches with split pits, and today’s variety is no exception. These peaches will be lower priced, but just as tasty and sweet as the first quality peaches; just take extra care when slicing, to be sure no pieces of pit get past you. We also have some summer plums right now at the market, but the earliest varieties won’t last long. Methley plums are sweet-fleshed (with a more tart skin), and the Early Magic and Early Golden plums have more of a tart, zippy flavor. Coming next will be some Shiro, the sweet yellow plums.

We still are harvesting some tart cherries. We are nicely into our zucchini, summer squash, & cucumbers, and the West Michigan blueberries. We still have some Honeycrisp apples.

Next week, we should have some tomatoes and sweet corn. (The raccoons are already ripping open some of the sweet corn. It’s a good thing we plant a lot of it!)
