We are currently hand-picking our own black sweet cherries, light sweet cherries, and “sour” (the type used for pies, now called “tart”; the variety is Montmorency) cherries for our market. Try before you buy–free samples to your right when you come in the front doors. We also have blueberries from southwest Michigan.
Dave & the crew are starting to shake (mechanically harvest) the majority of our tart cherries today, for processing. We have quite a few acres, and it will be interesting to see how many pounds we get. (It will be a short year because of the spring freezes. The Michigan crop is estimated to be just 5% of a normal full crop, but Dave thinks we have perhaps 20-25% of normal–and they may “ton up” more because of the nice 2 1/2″ of rain we got a week ago, which helped the cherries get plumper.)
