Tart (Montmorency) Cherries Start Today

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

I’m heading out shortly to pick some tart (Montmorency) cherries for the market. (Yes, we hand-pick all of the cherries we sell at our market.) We are picking black sweet cherries, and light sweets, too. You can enjoy free samples to try before you buy! All of the sunshine we have had this year has made the cherries extra-sweet! Don’t delay. . .eat some cherries today!

Get your local black sweet cherries now!

Monday, June 18th, 2012

Free samples of our own black sweet cherries at our market in Hart, so you can try before you buy! This year’s season will be as short as it’s ever been for us–and the earliest ever, too. Ordinarily, we would hope to begin our sweet cherry harvest by July 4th. This year, we expect to have harvested all of the cherries (tarts, too) on our farm by the end of June.

The rain we got yesterday was great for the sweet corn, & it looks as though our black golds (black sweet cherries) made it through without cracking. (If sweet cherries get rained on, they absorb the moisture through the skin. If there is too much moisture, they swell up too quickly and the skin cracks open.)

Apples in Abundance

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

If you are looking for a great apple, look no further!  Dave grows an amazing number of apple varieties for the market.  My favorite?  SweeTango(R) is so flavorful, crisp, and juicy that it is hard to beat!  It’s not only a great fresh apple, but also adds a special note to salads and makes wonderful apple crisp and pie.  If you haven’t tried SweeTango(R) apples yet, you owe it to your taste buds to give them a try!  We hope to have them for another month or so (depending upon demand).

Just visit Rennhack Orchards Market from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday (we’re open through Dec. 30) and you can try an apple that is new to you!  Just inside the front doors (to your left) is a nice long shelf covered with apple varieties to sample.  From old favorites like Cortland, to newer varieties like Honeycrisp(TM) and SweeTango(R), from A (Ambrosia) to Z (Zestar!), there is sure to be a variety that suits you!   And remember those out-of-town friends and relatives who would love to receive a taste of Oceana County from you–we ship apples as well as gift baskets!  Happy munching!

Surprising and Good Cookie Mixes

Friday, November 5th, 2010

We always offer free samples at Rennhack Orchards Market in Hart.  Our apple varieties are always available to try, on the fresh fruit sampling shelf just inside the front doors (to your left as you enter).  Our sampling station on the wall behind the counter area is used for pantry items such as jams, salsas, and more.  Today I sampled Chocolate Chip Cherry Chipotle Cookies.  Yes, Chipotle!  It adds a surprising kick to these very tasty cookies.  We sell this gourmet cookie mix, as well as many other mixes from Creekside Grains in Traverse City.  Michael & Loretta develop recipes themselves, with the best ingredients.  They tweak them until they are just right!  (The rejects got fed to their neighborhood squirrels, which took to peering into the windows waiting for their handouts!)  We are happy to carry products that are made in West Michigan by small family businesses.
