Our 2010 Apple “Taste-Off”
The people have spoken, and, once again, SweeTango® apples are the clear winner! In our 2010 Parents vs. Child Apple Taste-Off, we offered samples of our Honeycrisp™ (mom), Zestar!(TM) (dad), and SweeTango® (child) to festival-goers at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Apple & BBQ Cook-Off Festival on September 11. This year, all three varieties of apples were ripe and tasty by festival time, so we consider it a fair contest.
After sampling all three varieties, tasters voted for their favorite. Of the 472 votes placed this year, 237 were for SweeTango® apples. Honeycrisp™ came in second, with 132 votes, and Zestar!(TM) followed, with 103 votes.

Our 2009 Apple “Taste-Off”
Our first Parents vs. Child Apple Taste-off at the 2009 Silver Lake Sand Dunes Apple & BBQ Cook-Off Festival pitted Honeycrisp™ (mom) and Zestar!(TM) (dad) against their new offspring, SweeTango®. The cold summer delayed ripening and affected the 2009 Taste-Off results; Honeycrisp™ were on the early side of maturity, and were not yet fully flavored.
In 2009, SweeTango® was the runaway favorite. With 321 votes out of a total of 477 votes cast, SweeTango® apples were the undisputed winner. Zestar!(TM) came in a distant second with 103 votes. Honeycrisp™ garnered only 53 votes, reflecting the results of the cold summer.
